Even if we assumed life existed somewhere else in the universe, a visit by extraterrestrials to earth, such as is claimed in UFO reports, seems completely impracticable, if not impossible. The distances (and therefore the likely travel times) are unimaginably vast.

The closest star to the earth, Proxima Centauri (a-Centauri C) is 40.7 million million kilometers (approximately 25 million million miles) away. The Apollo flights took three days to get to the moon. At the same speed, one would need 870,000 years to get to the nearest star. Of course, one could accelerate (particularly unmanned) probes to a greater speed.

At the incredible speed of one-tenth the speed of light, the trip, one way would still take 43 years. However, one would need enormous amounts of energy for such an acceleration, roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of the entire world's population for one month.

Furthermore, in every cubic kilometer of space, there are an estimated 100,000 dust particles (made up of silicates and ice) weighing only a tenth of a gram. At such a velocity, colliding with even one of these tiny objects could destroy a spaceship.

i find it amazing that a lot of people that beleive in god dont beleive in ufo's or alien's.at least once a week new sightings of ufo's are reported from all over the world.and many reports of people seeing aliens are common knowlage.although i will be the first to addmit that most of these are hoaxe's there would be some that are not.and anyone that can look up at the star's and say that we are all that there is would be only fooling them selve's.i dont disbeleive in god i just think of it a bit diferent.i also find it a bit hard to understand the way of some christians, they ask us to beleive in a god no one has seen for over 2000 years but they dont beleive in ufo's that are sighted weekly by thousands of people.a bit hard to understand guys.if one god can create the earth in 7 days then isnt it posable that a race of beings that are far more advanced than us could travle those great distances in a short period of time.and as far as space dust destroying a spaceship at those speeds well lets think of it this way,150 years ago we humans would be killed by one bullet from a low powered rifle now we have bullet proof vest that are made from fabric that can stop a bullet from a high powered rifle.so wouldnt you think that an alien race 500,000 years more advanced than us would have worked this little mater of space dust out by now.so come on guys dont be ignorent towards something that in my eyes and many others is not only posable but more probable than a god we are yet to see
